Cainta massacre suspect nabbed in Marinduque

Police in Marinduque province have arrested the suspect in last Sunday night’s massacre of four family members in Cainta City in Rizal province. Marinduque police chief Senior Superintendent Edwin Roque said a tip led his men to Fortunato "Junjun" Acibar Jr. at about 4 p.m. in a resort in Boac town. "May nag-report sa pulis na may nakita sa resort sa Boac na kamukhang kamukha ng na-flash sa TV. Ang pulis Boac mabilis kumilos," Roque said in an interview on dzBB radio. (We received a tip that someone who looked like the suspect was seen in a resort in Boac. Our men acted quickly on the tip) He said Acibar is now undergoing tactical interrogation, and that his office is coordinating with Cainta police. Citing initial reports reaching him, he said Acibar did not resist arrest. "Nakipag-coordinate na rin tayo sa Rizal PNP para dalhin ang representatives para sa identification ng suspect na ito para 100% sure tayong ito ang tao," Roque said. (We asked the Cainta police to send their people here so we can make sure this is the guy they are looking for.)

Cainta Mayor Dominic Ilagan has offered a hotline for information leading to Acibar's arrest. "Nananawagan tayo sapagka't gusto natin magkaroon ng hustisya ang nangyari kahapon. Malagim na krimen ito, Valentine's Day pa naman. Kung kaya sa kamaganak baka alam ninyo o kaibigan, ipagbigay alam sa Cainta, 6550846 local 200," Ilagan said in a separate interview on dzRH radio. (We are appealing for justice. This is a heinous crime, coming on Valentine's Day. We appeal even to his relatives and friends to provide information on his whereabouts, to hotline 6550846 local 200.) Radio dzRH had earlier reported that the town government offered a P100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators in the massacre. Killed in the incident were Amado Acibar Sr., 45; his wife Elizabeth, 40; and children Pretchie, 10; and Amado Jr., 14. Ilagan said police in Cainta town have set up checkpoints to arrest the perpetrators of the gruesome massacre. He said police suspect more than one person was behind the massacre based on an initial inspection of the crime scene. Citing initial police reports, Ilagan said the family may have been killed between 11 p.m. and midnight of Sunday, following an argument between Amado Sr. and his nephew Fortunato, 24. - KBK, GMA News
