BIR official shot dead in Antipolo City

UPDATED 12:15 p.m. - Two unidentified motorcycle-riding men shot dead a revenue district officer of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Antipolo City on Thursday morning. The police have started examining the suspects' motorcycle, which the victim's driver rammed in an attempt to hinder their escape. The incident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. at Masinag village in Antipolo City, according to a report by radio dzBB's Glen Juego. A separate report on dzRH radio identified the victim as BIR Revenue District Officer Marcelino Yap, who died after being shot several times in different parts of the body. The dzRH report said Yap headed Revenue District No. 45 that covers the SMART area – San Mateo, Marikina, Antipolo City and Teresa in Rizal Province. The dzBB report said Antipolo City police director Superintendent Rodino Elfa said they are looking into the possibility the killing was work-related. Elfa said Yap had been introducing reforms to the area when Thursday's killing took place. "Sabi ng witness dalawa (ang bumaril); ang nakuha natin, bala ng cal-.45 (Witnesses said two gunmen shot Yap. We have recovered five shells from a cal-.45 pistol)," SPO2 Dennis Anastolio said on dzRH. He said an initial inspection of Yap's body showed he sustained "three to five" gunshot wounds. Recovered from the scene were Yap's wallet with cash, and a mobile phone. However, Anastolio said they are now examining the motorcycle that was rammed by Yap's driver. The police are checking its registration to determine who owns it. – VVP, GMA News
