Cainta massacre suspect charged with murder


After being arrested and admitting to the crime, the main suspect in the Valentine's Day massacre of a family of four in Cainta, Rizal was formally charged on Thursday. Fortunato "Junjun" Acibar Jr. was charged with four counts of murder in inquest proceedings before the Rizal Provincial Prosecutor's Office, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported. The report said Acibar admitted to the crime during the proceedings and was charged with four counts of murder. He admitted to killing Amado and Elizabeth Acibar and their two children after a drinking spree on Sunday night. The bodies of the victims were discovered on Monday. The police acting on a tip from a tricycle driver arrested Acibar onTuesday afternoon in Boac, Marinduque, and brought him to Metro Manila on Wednesday. Acibar claimed that he had been angry with Elizabeth for allegedly accusing him of being a murderer, and finally snapped during a drinking spree Sunday night. Acibar also said he acted alone in the killing. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is now analyzing some items seized from Acibar. A news release on the PNP website said these included a mobile phone with bloodstains. "This will be subjected to serology (blood serum) examination. His fingerprint will also be compared to those lifted from the crime scene," the PNP said. – VVP, GMA News
