US Embassy in Manila closed Feb. 21

The United States Embassy in Manila announced Friday that it will be closed on Monday in observance of President's Day (George Washington's birthday), a US holiday. In an announcement on its Facebook page, the Embassy said normal operations will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 22. President's Day is a US federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of George Washington, the first US President. In 1968, the 90th Congress of the US included "Washington's Birthday" in the list of holidays. Washington led the American victory over Britain in the American Revolutionary War as commander in chief of the Continental Army in 1775–1783, and he presided over the writing of the US Constitution in 1787. He was credited for developing the forms and rituals of government that have been used ever since, such as using a cabinet system and delivering an inaugural address. — LBG, GMA News
