Honda Phils recalls 5,468 units of City and Jazz models

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. on Friday said it will recall certain units of its City and Jazz models that have defective engine springs. In a statement, Honda said the recall will cover a total of 5,468 City and Jazz units that were sold between September 2008 and April last year. Included in the recall are 3,847 City units with frame numbers: PADGM26509V900006 to PADGM26509V900013 (2009 variant), PADGM26509V000001 to PADGM26509V003690 (also 2009 variant), and PADGM2650AV103691 to PADGM2650AV103840 (2010 variant). The 1,621 Jazz units that will be recalled have the following frame numbers: MRHGE88509P030004 to MRHGE88509P031145 (2009 variant) and MRHGE8850AP030001 to MRHGE8850AP030480 (2010 variant). "Findings show that the high surface pressure between the lost motion spring retainers and rocker arm slippers results to increased retainer movement that might lead to spring breakage," Honda said. "The broken spring will then come into contact with other moving parts within the cylinder head and this will initially produce noise, and in worst case, may cause engine to stall," it also said. Honda noted that "no crashes or injuries" have been reported related to this defect. Honda said it will send letters of notice to concerned Jazz and City owners starting Feb. 21. Customers are also requested to call their respective dealers or the Honda Hotline at 1-800-1000-Honda (46632) or (02) 857-7240, and visit Honda website for inquiries and details of replacement schedules. The replacement of affected parts will be carried out free of charge, Honda emphasized. City units are assembled in Honda's plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, while Jazz units are imported from Thailand. — JE/OMG, GMA News
