Security tightened at PMA for Aquino visit

Security was tightened at the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio City early Saturday for the arrival of President Benigno Aquino III. Checkpoints were set up along the roads leading to the PMA grounds at Fort del Pilar, according to a report by radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. Aquino was expected to attend the annual PMA homecoming. On Friday, a Malacañang statement said some 2,000 alumni and their families are to attend the event. "It will be the first time the President will step into the sacred Borromeo Field as the country's chief executive," the Palace said. During the homecoming ceremony, Aquino will witness the recognition of the Cavalier Awardees, Diamond Jubilarians (Class 1951), Golden Jubilarians (Class 1961), and Silver Jubilarians (Class 1986), and the oath-taking of the PMA Alumni Association, Inc. The PMA Alumni Homecoming, which started last Thursday and ends on Saturday, includes traditional sporting festivities, class picnics, and the parade that will be attended by the President. "The PMA annually calls on alumni, now the leaders of the country's military, to go back to the hallowed grounds of the Borromeo Field, back to the institution where they were molded," the Palace said. — LBG, GMA News
