CEU Celebrates Arts Month


Centro Escolar University celebrates Arts Month this February with cultural presentations, an exhibit, and a grand concert presented by the CEU Presidential Committee on Culture and the Arts (PCCA) on February 21-24. Dr. Ma. Cristina D. Padolina, CEU president, who organized the PCCA, leads the celebration which starts with cultural presentations of the Culture Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran-Manila to be held at the CEU Librada Avelino Auditorium on February 21. On February 22, PCCA opens at the Student Activity Center 2nd floor at 3:30 p.m. the Yaman ng Lahing Pilipino Exhibit, led by Dr. Padolina, and overall chairpersons, Dr. Teresita G. Carey, dean of the CEU School of Education, Liberal Arts, Music, and Social Work, and PCCA convenor, and Dr. Carlito B. Olaer, vice president for Student Affairs. Yaman ng Lahi features pictures, signed musical sheets, and other rare mementos of Antonio Molina, National Artist for Music (1973); Francisca Reyes Aquino, National Artist for Dance (1973); Lucio San Pedro, National Artist for Music (1991); Felipe de Leon, National Artist for Music (1997); Severino Montano, National Artist for Theater (2001), and Ramon Obusan, National Artist for Dance (2006). Camille Lopez, renowned soprano and a faculty member of the CEU Conservatory of Music, performs during the opening rites of the Yaman ng Lahi exhibit, to be held at the second floor lobby of the CEU Student Activity Center, on February 23. Also on February 23, the CEU Conservatory of Music presents a Tribute Performance at the CEU Museum Lobby at 2 p.m., featuring Fredline Parin, Ricardo Mojica, Mario Echipare, Elisanta Cortez, Jason Ros, and selected Music students, with Benjamin Reyes as assisting artist. A Grand Concert caps the PCCA Arts Month celebration on February 24, featuring the CEU Pilipino Dance Troupe, Himig Centro Escolar, CEU Concert Band, and CEU Conservatory of Music Chorus. CEU President Dr. Ma. Cristina D. Padolina will deliver the welcome remarks and Dr. Teresita G. Carey, PCCA convenor, will speak on the Yaman ng Lahi rationale. The repertoire of Himig Centro Escolar includes Rosas Pandan, Mamayog Akun, Ti Ayat Ti Mey Sa Nga Ubing, Kapag Tumibok Ang Puso, Isang Linggong Pag-ibig, Panpang ginapong The CEU Dance Troupe presents Pang-alay, Singkil, Dugsu and Lumad. The CEU Concert Band plays Dalagang Pilipina by Jose G. Santos; Gaano Kita Kamahal by Ernani Cuenco; Minamahal Kita by Mike Velarde Jr.; Hahanapin Ko by Jose Mari Chan; Overture to Philippine Folksongs, arranged by Bernard Green; La Bella Filipina, arranged by Lucio San Pedro; and Sa Ugoy Ng Duyan by Lucio San Pedro, arranged by F.R. Parin The CEU Conservatory of Music Chorus sings Gloria by Antonio J. Molina; Magtanim Hindi Biro by Felipe Padilla de Leon; Kalesa by Ernani Cuenco; and Sa Mahal Kong Bayan by Lucio San Pedro. CEU friends from the Islamic Republic of Iran present an intermission number. Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi, Isang Musika is the curtain call number, followed by the CEU Hymn. The PCCA Working Committee is led by Dr. Ma. Cristina D. Padolina, consultant; and Dr. Teresita G. Carey and Dr. Carlito B. Olaer, overall chairs. Yaman Ng Lahi Exhibit committee is composed of Tessie A. Ramirez, chair; Dr. Teresita H. Calma, co-chair; with Ricardo Cruz, production design director, Cultural Center of the Philippines, as exhibit curator; Jef-Henson N. Dee as graphic designer, and Ed A. Villarante, Dr. Ma. Lourdes R. Baello, Cynthia Gaspar, and Boy dela Cruz, as members. The Research Committee chairs are Angelito E. Ayran Jr., Marciano Viri, Tessie A. Ramirez, Fredeline Parin, and Jef-Henson N. Dee; with Fritz Rivera,Simon Philip Chua, Roselle Endozo, Lara Anna Maria Villas, Jinky Dimaano, Marco Lucielo, and Mark Luigi Millamina as members. The Program Exhibit and Concert committee is composed of Jef-Henson N. Dee, Tessie A. Ramirez, Angelito E. Ayran Jr., Marciano Viri, German de Guzman, and Fritz Rivera. The Finance, Costumes, and Evaluation committee includes Avelina Raqueno, Dante B. Gabano, and Mark Louie Maycong. Other members of the PCCA Working Committee are Grace N. Villanueva, documentation; Cynthia U. Santiago, publicity; Marilou Badong and the Social Arts and Humanities Faculty, reception; and Erlinda P. Fajardo and Zairyl S. Sabandal, secretariat.
