Chinese killed, 4 others hurt in Cagayan road mishap

(Updated 3:01 p.m.) A 27-year-old Chinese national was killed while four of his companions were hurt in a vehicular accident in the northern Philippine province of Cagayan early Tuesday morning. Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz, Philippine National Police spokesman, said the accident happened at Barangay (village) Santa Cruz in Santa Ana town at about 5:45 a.m. The lone fatality was identified as Huang Jia Nhua, the driver of the Toyota Fortuner (WIN 128) that figured in the accident. The other victims were Vic-Zheng Qiman, 31; Li Hongde, 31; Huang Jiajun, 23; and Feng Zhouxuan, 25. Police said the victims were all from Guangdong, China, and were transients in Sta. Ana town. Authorities said the victims were rushed to the St. Anthony's Hospital, where the driver died while being treated. PO2 Joel Palor, Sta. Ana police investigator, said Nhua miscalculated the road, which has been undergoing repair, while driving the car. The vehicle later slammed onto the riprap and fell down a shallow ravine. - Mark D.
