Jacqueline Alarca
La Salle's veteran spiker Jacqueline Alarca was named the women's Most Valuable Player (MVP), while University of Santo Tomas' John Paul Torres duplicated the feat for the men's side in the 73rd UAAP volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City. Alarca, the most senior Lady Archer, bested last year's MVP Aiza Maizo of UST for the top individual honor. She also won the league’s best spiker and best server awards. Alarca was joined by teammates Michelle Gumabao (best blocker) and Maria Mikaela Ezperanza (Rookie of the Year) for the individual honors. Maizo didn't go home empty-handed after earning the best scorer and best receiver trophies. Ateneo's Jamenea Ferrer and National University's Jennelyn Reyes were named as the season's best setter and best digger. In the men's division, Torres captured this year's MVP honors to go with his best scorer and best spiker plums, while teammate Paul Jan Doloiras was named the best receiver. The other men's individual awardees were Adamson's Nino Jeruz (best blocker), Gilbert Longavela (best digger), Far Eastern University's Pitrus Paulo de Ocampo (best server), and NU's Peter Den Mar Torres (Rookie of the Year). – JVP, KY, GMA News
