Phivolcs: 9 rockfall incidents, mudflow recorded at Bulusan
Restive Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon continued to show activity as state volcanologists recorded at least nine rockfall events there in the last 24 hours. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) also noted at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday a confined muddy stream at the Monbon Creek in San Benon in Irosin town. "Bulusan Volcano’s seismic network recorded three volcanic earthquakes and nine rockfall events during the past 24 hours ... Bulusan Volcano’s status remains at Alert Level 1. This means that the source of activity is hydrothermal and shallow. Entry to the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited, since the area is at risk to sudden steam and ash explosions," it said in its Tuesday update. Phivolcs also warned residents in the northwest and southwest sectors of the volcano to take precautions against ashfalls. "If possible aircraft should avoid flying on the western side of the volcano as volcanic debris are likely to be carried in this direction by the prevailing winds," it added. Taal, Mayon Volcanoes Meanwhile, in Batangas, Phivolcs said Taal Volcano was relatively quiet as the seismic network did not record any volcanic earthquake during the past 24 hours. But Taal remains under Alert Level 1, Phivolcs said. In Albay province, Phivolcs said two rockfall events were recorded at Mayon Volcano during the past 24 hours. Alert Level 1 is in effect over Mayon Volcano, it added. "While Alert Level 1 means no eruption is imminent, it is recommended that residents should not enter the 6-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to the continuing threat from sudden small explosions and rockfalls from the upper and middle slopes of the volcano," Phivolcs said. — LBG, GMA News
