Drilon: Ligot's brod-in-law to face Senate probe Thursday

Edgardo Yambao, the brother-in-law of former military comptroller Lt. Gen. Jacinto Ligot, will appear during the continuation of the Senate blue ribbon committee’s inquiry on alleged corruption in the military on Thursday, Sen. Franklin Drilon said. “I understand that the brother-in-law [of Ligot] will appear. That’s my information," Drilon told reporters during an ambush interview on Tuesday. Drilon, chairman of the Senate finance committee, had earlier said Yambao acquired P300 million in cash and assets from 1999 to 2004 despite being unemployed. Yambao supposedly retired in 1999 and did not file an income tax return from then until 2004. Drilon, however, said he does not know if Ligot’s wife Erlinda will also appear before the Senate. Mrs. Ligot had earlier skipped the hearing due to health reasons. Mrs. Ligot was accused of purchasing several properties in the United States, including a house in Anaheim (reportedly worth $504,000) and Buena Park ($183,868) in California. Drilon said the Senate doesn’t really need Mrs. Ligot’s presence to confirm the allegations against her. “There are public records and she cannot deny (them)," he said. Ligot was the predecessor of Carlos Garcia, who is also accused of amassing more than P300 million in state funds while he was still in service. He was comptroller from 1999 to 2001. - Kimberly Jane Tan/KBK, GMA News
