GMA Network continues nationwide ratings dominance
Broadcast industry leader GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) continues to dominate the ratings for National Urban Philippines, based on the February data of industry ratings supplier Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. The Kapuso station dislodged rival ABS-CBN in the number one position at the beginning of the year. According to the full February data (February 20 to 28 based on overnight readings), GMA garnered 34.2 percent of household audience shares nationwide, or 2.2 percent higher than ABSâ 32 share points, and 19.3 points higher than TV5âs 14.9 points. In the list of top 30 programs nationwide, 16 were GMA programs. GMA News and Public Affairsâ "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" was televisionâs highest-rated public affairs program nationwide with a household rating point of 22.1. Total Urban Luzon In Total Urban Luzon, which makes up 77 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA enjoys the top rank. GMA finished its February programming with 37.9 household share points, over 10 points higher than ABSâ 27 points; and higher by 21.2 points than TV5âs 16.7 points. Including specials, 21 GMA-produced programs made it to the top 30 programs in Urban Luzon. Charice's "Home for Valentineâs" scored a high 27.2 household rating points on the board. Mega Manila GMA also strengthened its grip in viewer-rich Mega Manila, which comprises 58 percent of the total television households nationwide. During the period covered, GMA scored 39.4 share points, or 14.3 points higher than ABS CBN's 25.1 points; and more than double of TV5âs 17.3 points. The top Mega Manila programs were produced by GMA. With specials, 23 Kapuso programs made it to the top 30 programs in the said area. Of the top 10 programs on chart, eight were from GMA.
