Suspected 'high-profile' NPA member nabbed in Negros Occidental

An alleged "high-profile" member of the New People's Army (NPA) was arrested by authorities in Negros Occidental on Tuesday night. Senior Superintendent Ricardo dela Paz, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City police, identified the arrested individual as Rogina Quilop alias Rowena Navarro/Jhea, 42. Quilop was arrested after arriving at the New Bacolod-Silar Airport in Bacolod City at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. "We received intelligence reports na susunduin siya doon ng asawa at dalawang anak niya," said Dela Paz. She was arrested by virtue of a warrant issued by Judge Katherine Go of the San Carlos Region Trial Court Branch 59 for arson charges. The police official said Quilop was allegedly responsible for the torching down of a transloading station in Toboso town, also in Negros Occidental. Dela Paz said intelligence information indicated that Quilop is a "high-profile" member of the communist group but could not tell what position she holds, saying the military would be the one to have this information. Quilop is also said to be a manager of a local cooperative and a member of the human rights group Karapatan. – VVP, GMA News
