Red Cross marks Francis M's death anniv with blood donation drive

The Philippine Red Cross marked the death anniversary of master rapper Francis Magalona Saturday by scheduling a mass blood donation drive in Quezon City. A news release on the Philippine Red Cross website Saturday said the blood donation was scheduled at the "Eat Bulaga" Studio in Quezon City. "The said project is done in cooperation with the Eat Bulaga family, not only to promote the legacy of the late former Eat Bulaga host who died of leukemia, but also to express their sincerest thanks to PRC," it said. Magalona, who died on March 6 last year, was one of the blood beneficiaries of the Red Cross Blood Program. "(Up) until his death on March 6, (2009), he had received a total of 37 bags of Platelet Apheresis Blood from PRC, through the assistance of Chairman Richard J. Gordon," the PRC said. The PRC said its National Blood Services is now intensifying its mass blood donation drive campaign to increase the country's blood supply. PRC engages in partnerships with several companies to join the cause, to meet the growing need for blood transfusion in the country. — LBG, GMA News
