Magnitude-3.8 quake rocks Zambales, 3rd in last 24 hours


A magnitude-3.8 quake rocked Zambales in Central Luzon Monday morning — the third in the last 24 hours, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 9:02 a.m., and was tectonic in origin. It said the epicenter was 60 km northwest of Iba town in Zambales. No damage or aftershock was expected from the quake, Phivolcs said. At least two quakes had rocked the Zambales area in Central Luzon Sunday evening. The first quake measured magnitude 3.7 and was recorded at 6:53 p.m. Its epicenter was 114 km northwest of Iba, Zambales. A second quake measuring magnitude 3.1 was recorded at 7:04 p.m., with the epicenter 112 km southwest of Iba town. No damage or aftershock was expected from the two quakes. Meanwhile, a predawn magnitude-2 quake rocked the Cagayan area in Northern Luzon Monday. Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 1:49 a.m., and was tectonic in origin. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake's epicenter was 14 km southwest of Rizal town in Cagayan. — RSJ, GMA News
