PHL Embassy: No Pinoys hurt in Solomon Island quake

There is no initial report of Filipinos hurt in a magnitude-6.6 quake that hit the Solomon Islands Monday morning (Manila time). Philippine Embassy to Papua New Guinea charge d'affaires Bolivar Bao said that while the quake was felt, it did not appear to cause much damage. "Malayo ito sa kanila, ang nangyaring lindol, at nangyari ito sa dagat. Naramdaman nila pero di gaano kalakas," Bao said in an interview on dzBB radio. (The quake was far from areas where Filipinos reside. And the quake occurred at sea, so it was felt but not too strongly.) Bao said there are some 300 Filipinos in the Solomon Islands, many of then engaged in construction work and in business. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), meanwhile, allayed fears of a tsunami reaching the Philippines. – KBK, GMA News
