Makati to undertake 'knowledge management' training
Makati City has become the first local government unit (LGU) to undertake a training on Knowledge Management (KM) or the range of strategies used to manage knowledge or information. Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. formally launched the project dubbed “Knowledge Management in the Public Sector" in cooperation with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) at the city hall recently. “We in Makati have taken on this project as it jibes with our current thrust of enhancing our systems and processes to be able to stay ahead of competition in the local and global arenas," Binay said in an article on the city's web portal. "With this, we hope to equip our city managers with the tools to help us lift the Makati Governance model to that of a truly world-class urban center," he added. During the ceremony, Elena Avedillo-Cruz, vice president and managing director of DAP Center for Knowledge Management, presented a copy of the signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) between the city government and DAP to the mayor. Knowledge management is a concept where an organization “consciously and comprehensively gathers, organizes, shares, and analyzes its knowledge in terms of resources, documents, and people skills." Makati is the only LGU among three government agencies selected as model organizations for the implementation of KM in the public sector.
