Former PBA commissioner Rudy Salud dies at 72


Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner Atty. Rodrigo L. Salud passed away peacefully on Monday at the Medical City in Pasig. He was 72 years old. Salud's demise was relayed to GMA News by his son, current PBA commissioner Atty. Chito Salud. According to the younger Salud, his father died of heart failure at 12:33 p.m. The elder Salud was also founding secretary general of the World Boxing Council, besides serving as PBA commissioner from 1988 to 1991 after helping in the formation of Asia’s first professional basketball league and guiding its growth as the founding legal counsel. Prior to his appointment as commissioner, Salud served as deputy commissioner of the late Col. Mariano Yenko. Salud is survived by wife Josephine, children Angelico, Renato, Priscilla, Arnold, Christine, Margaret, Annabel and their families. Viewing will be on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Sta. Maria Della Strada Parish along Katipunan Road, cor. Pansol St. in Quezon City. Interment will be on Thursday, March 10. - KY, Rey Joble, GMA News
