MPD on alert for women's protests

The police in Manila were placed on alert on Tuesday for protest actions by women's groups marking International Women's Day. The Manila Police District said the police teams will ensure that the protests will not disrupt traffic or everyday activities, according to a report by radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo. MPD spokesman Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said police teams have been deployed to the venues of the protest actions. Margarejo said the police will exercise maximum tolerance in dealing with the protesters.

An earlier report by dzBB's Allan Gatus said groups such as Gabriela had scheduled protest actions to mark International Women's Day. The group will start its activities at the Mabuhay Rotonda at the boundary of Manila and Quezon City; then hold a program at Plaza Miranda before marching to C.M. Recto Avenue and Morayta Street, then going to Mendiola near Malacañang.– VVP, GMA News
