Tigers tap Knight's former player as 3rd reinforcement

A former player of Pat Knight, son of the legendary coach and Hall of Famer Bobby Knight, will reinforce the Powerade Tigers in the team’s next game on Wednesday. Martin Zeno, former stalwart of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, listed as 6-foot-5, is scheduled to arrive late Monday night to help change the fortunes of the slumping Tigers squad of coach Bo Perasol. “With the line-up that we have, malaki talaga ang trabaho na kailangang gawin ng import sa team namin. That’s because marami kaming kakulangan," Perasol said in a text message to GMA News. In his junior year with the Red Raiders, Zeno has been consistent, particularly in free throw shooting where he had a streak of 50-for-50 conversions stretching over 12 games. He was the team’s leading free throw shooter and second in team’s scoring with a 16.6 points-per-game average. Zeno suited up for the Erie Bay Hawks in the National Basketball Development League (NBDL), where he averaged 4.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Zeno will be the third import to see action for Powerade after Titus Ivory and Russel Carter. Carter, another NBDL veteran who also played in the European Basketball League, could only lead the Tigers to a single victory in the team’s five games, putting it in danger of early elimination in this short, import-laced conference. Another Red Raider as possible import Meanwhile, another former Red Raider, Andre Emmet, is being eyed by B-Meg Derby Ace to replace current import Shamari Spears. With the Llamados having absorbed their third loss in five games, coach Jorge Gallent believes they will need an import in the caliber of Emmet, who emerged as the Red Raiders' all-time leading scorer. While in college, Emmet had the privilege of playing for the elder Knight, coach of the 1984 US men's basketball team bannered by Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and Sam Perkins and which won the gold medal in the Los Angeles Olympics. But Emmet, an NBA veteran, cannot be located at this time, according to Gallent. "We're having a difficult time finding him. Honestly, we need a small forward import to match up with the other teams' reinforcements. With Kerby Raymundo now back in the line-up, we believe that the need for the No.3 guy has become more of a necessity for us," added Gallent. Emmet last played in China with the Fujian Xunxing. - KY, Rey Joble, GMA News
