Hostage-taker's bro testifies before HK court via video link


Through a video conference link, SPO2 Gregorio Mendoza on Wednesday testified before the inquest of the Hong Kong Coroner's Court on the Aug. 23, 2010 Manila hostage-taking that killed eight tourists from Hong Kong. Gregorio is the brother of slain hostage-taker, dismissed Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza, who was killed by responding policemen after he began shooting his hostages inside the bus he commandeered. Gregorio was accompanied by his lawyer Romulo Macalintal at the video conference being held at the Ramon Cojuangco Building in Makati City. Members of the Hong Kong police, led by Superintendent Chan Lok Wing of the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, were there to monitor the video conference. The Philippine official present to oversee the event was Justice Undersecretary Leah Armamento. The proceedings is being presided in Hong Kong by Judge Michael Chan. — Sophia Dedace, LBG/RSJ, GMA News
