Junior golf standout Tabuena turns pro

Miguel Tabuena has played as an amateur for the last time in the recently concluded The Montecillo Cup at the Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club since the junior golf standout has decided to turn pro over the weekend. "I am done playing for trophies," said Tabuena, who will jumpstart his pro career in the Asian Tour's $300,000 SAIL Open at the Delhi Golf Club in New Delhi, India next week. "I'm pretty excited with my maiden tournament in the Asian Tour. I hope I could make my mark just like Noh Seung-yul of Korea did last year," he said. Noh emerged as the youngest ever Asian Tour Order of Merit champion at the age of 19 years and 204 days. And Tabuena knows it will be a hard feat to duplicate. For the first few months, what he'll be gunning for is, at least, one tournament win. If he gets it, he will be the youngest champion on the Asian Tour. Chinnarat Phadungsil of Thailand currently holds the record at 17 years and five days in 2004. "The record will be a great addition but my priority is winning the title in the SAIL Open. It will be a good gauge if I am already mature enough to be with the top Asian golfers," he added. – Adrian Flores, JVP, GMA News
