The five Manila policemen embroiled in a mess over more than P10 million in missing ransom money were charged before the Manila City Prosecutor on Thursday.   • Senior Inspector Peter Nerviza;
  • SPO4 Ernesto Peralta;
  • PO3 Mike Ongpauco;
  • PO3 Jefferson Britanico, and
  • PO1 Rommel Ocampo. No bail was recommended, the report said. Administrative charges Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas, head of a special task group investigating the charges, said administrative charges are also being readied against the five policemen. A separate report on People's Journal newspaper said the five policemen were locked up at the MPD Integrity Jail. On Tuesday, the five policemen who were in hiding, surrendered to Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, a day after he issued a shoot-to-kill order against them. Lim said Wednesday he ordered charges and a lie-detector test against the five persons. Lim said the suspects arrested for the kidnapping of a Malaysian national on March 6 had maintained the policemen helped themselves to the money. Lim also said their investigation showed the victim, who was abducted March 6, had been made to arrange for the withdrawal of P15 million for his ransom. The five Manila policemen had only reported recovering P4.2 million. – VVP, GMA News
