Visayas, Minda floods bring death toll to 9


Nine Filipinos have died so far from the floods and landslides that have hit portions of the Visayas and Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Thursday. A family of seven, a 65-year-old man, and an electrocuted man perished in separate incidents, the NDRRMC said in its 5 p.m. update. A landslide buried alive seven members of the Jordan family in Barangay Cabalawan, Tacloban City. The NDRRMC reported the deaths of couple Marlon and Jenita Jordan, both 35, and their children Marieta, 16; Angelica, 14; John Paul, 13; John Rey, 4; and Heyrex, 3. Drowning claimed the life of 65-year-old Armando Buticarlo in Bohol. Leo Espina of Palo, Leyte meanwhile was killed due to electrocution. The natural calamities also affected some 3,130 families or 15,398 people from Bohol, Western Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Misamis Oriental, and South Cotabato. Of these numbers, 2,878 families or 14,138 people have been evacuated.—PEII/JV, GMA News
