NDRRMC: Village in Bohol under state of calamity due to floods


A village in Bohol province in Central Visayas was placed under a state of calamity due to flash floods that hit parts of Visayas and Mindanao in past days. In its Friday 6 a.m. update, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the floods had affected 35 families or 150 people in Balbalan village in Dimiao town. Flash floods also affected Mayana, Calabasita and Alejawan villages in Jagna town; and Bugang Sur in Bilar town, the NDRRMC added. It said the death toll remained at nine as of Friday morning, adding the floods and landslides had affected 3,130 families or 15,398 people in Bohol, Western Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte in the Visayas; and Misamis Oriental and South Cotabato in Mindanao. Of those affected, 2,878 families or 14,138 people had been evacuated.

Impassable roads In Central Visayas, the National Highway linking Mayana and Calabasita villages in Jagna town (Bohol) remained impassable due to debris caused by flooding. The road going to Barangay Bugang Sur, Bilar town was also impassable due to flashfloods. In Eastern Visayas, impassable road sections and bridges included:
  • Mahaplag–Sogod Road in Southern Leyte, impassable to all types of vehicles due to landslide along Maharlika Road km 1009+700 (Dampou) to km1018+800 (Sawong). Alternate route for Southern Leyte is the Abuyog-Silago Road and Mahaplag-Baybay-Bato-Sogod-Libagon Road. Clearing operations was temporarily stopped due to unfavorable weather condition;
  • Wright-Taft, Eastern Samar (Brgy. Malinao), impassable to all types of vehicles due to flooding;
  • Junction Buenavista–Lawaan Road, impassable due to flooding (Brgy. San Vicente, Quinapondan, Eastern Samar);
  • Camp 5–Junction Taft–Borongan Road, impassable due to flooding (Brgy. Malinao, San Pablo);
  • Abuyog–Silago, Leyte Road, impassable due to landslide (Brgy. Tadoc, Abuyog, Leyte) blocking the Abuyog-Silago Road;
  • Bernard Reed Bridge in Palo, Leyte, where vehicle traffic has been diverted to a bypass road; and the
  • Cong. Artemio Mate Avenue, Tacloban City.Personnel from the Coast Guard in Tacloban were dispatched to evacuate some70 people in Apitong village in Tacloban. The Coast Guard in Cebu sent two Special Operations Group teams with rubber boats to Tacloban. Its district in Bicol sent a seven-member SOG team with rubber boat and medical personnel to Tacloban as well. — LBG/RSJ, GMA News
