Cebu bids to set world record for biggest rice cake

Mandaue City in Cebu province will aim to set a world record for its "bibingka" (rice cake) in time for its fiesta on April 27. Residents will start preparing a rice cake measuring 50 to 60 feet – the size of a basketball court – on March 27, radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate reported Saturday. The bibingka is a local delicacy that has become a hit with tourists visiting the city, the report said. Mandaue City Tourism officer Louela Cabañero said the "Bibingkahan sa Mandaue," one of the highlights of the city's fiesta, will be held at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Center. The report said at least 200 sacks of first-class rice will be used in making the cake, even as the local Department of Education has pledged its support. — LBG, GMA News
