Phivolcs: Magnitude-4.5 quake hits Davao area

A magnitude-4.5 quake hit the Davao area in Mindanao early Saturday, but state seismologists said no damage or casualty was expected. Ito di natin inaasahang maramdaman at walang magiging tsunami dulot nito (It was not felt at any intensity. We do not expect it to trigger any tsunami)," Solidum said in an interview on dzBB radio. A Phivolcs bulletin issued past 11 a.m. said the quake was recorded at 8:36 a.m., with the epicenter at 123 km southeast of Mati, Davao Oriental. It said it was tectonic in origin, and that no damage or aftershock was expected. Earlier, the United States Geological Survey recorded the quake as magnitude-4.6.
