NDRRMC: Flood death toll up to 11; 4 kids missing


The death toll from floods and landslides that hit portions of the Visayas and Mindanao rose to 11 as of Saturday night, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. The NDRRMC said in its update that the dead included nine from Leyte and two from Bohol. At least four children remained missing, its report said. The council identified the latest fatalities as Rizalde Angco, 13, of Sierra Bullones, Bohol (drowning), and Alejandro Nobe, 65, of Apitong, Tacloban City (trauma). Earlier reported dead were seven members of the Jordan family of Tacloban City (landslide), Leo Espina of Palo, Leyte (electrocution), and Armando Buticarlo of Sierra Bullones, Bohol (drowning). Still missing are: — Ramster Cabalejo, 7, of Kananga, Leyte; — Raynes Mark Polinio, 7, of Kananga, Leyte; — Marck Mula, 12, of Bacuag, Surigao del Norte; and — Bryan Villaces, 12, of Bacuag, Surigao del Norte. The NDRRMC said the floods and landslides had affected at least 29,682 families or 148,548 people in 463 villages in 34 towns and one city in Bohol, Biliran, Southern Leyte, Samar, and Northern Samar, Misamis Oriental, and South Cotabato. Some 556 families or 2,827 people are still housed in evacuation centers. Damage to property was estimated at P11.531 million, including P7.531 million in agriculture and P4 million in infrastructure. Rising water levels As of 8 p.m. Saturday, water levels at rivers in Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur had started to rise. Lowland villages in Carmen, Tago, and San Miguel in Surigao del Sur were partially flooded, but no evacuation was reported. Roads in parts of Surigao City and Surigao del Sur were partially flooded but still passable. In Cortex town in Surigao del Sur, two houses were partially damaged by a landslide but no casualty was reported. Winds destroy houses Funnel-shaped winds destroyed houses in Mukas and Tabigue villages in Kolambugan town in Lanao del Norte, affecting 70 families or 350 people. Some 12 houses were destroyed and 58 damaged. A 12-year-old girl, Cherlyn Boligao, was injured in the incident. — JE, GMA News
