NDRRMC: Death toll from floods, landslides now 13


The death toll from floods and landslides that hit parts of the Visayas and Mindanao rose to 13 as of Sunday afternoon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. In its 5 p.m. update, the NDRRMC said the latest fatalities were two of four children initially reported missing. According to the NDRRMC, the two were Marck Mula, 12; and Bryan Villaces, 12, of Poblacion in Bacuag, Surigao del Norte. Both drowned after being swept away by the current, the NDRRMC said. Still missing are Ramster Cabalejo, 7; and Raynes Mark Polinio, 7, of Cacao village in Kananga, Leyte. Injured was 12-year-old Cherlyn Boligao, after a tornado ripped through her village in Tabigue, Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte. The NDRRMC said at least 35,388 families or 179,177 people in 492 villages in 38 towns and one city in Bohol, Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Western Samar and Southern Leyte in Eastern Visayas; Lanao del Norte and Misamis Oriental in Region X; South Cotabato in Region XII; and Surigao del Sur in Caraga had been affected. Of these, 624 families or 3,167 people are housed in 14 evacuation centers. Some 94 houses were destroyed while 96 were damaged. Damage to property was estimated at P11.531 million, including P7.531 million in agriculture and P4 million in infrastructure. Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said a minor landslide occurred between 2 and 3 a.m. along Maharlika Highway in Pangi village in Southern Leyte but the debris was immediately cleared. There were no casualties from the landslide, the NDRRMC said. - KBK, GMA News
