PHL authorities nab 6 Chinese poachers off Palawan


Philippine authorities arrested at least six Chinese caught illegally fishing off Palawan province on Friday. Radio dzBB's Palawan affiliate reported the six were turned over to the Philippine National Police in Balabac town. The report said the six, who were not immediately identified, were intercepted by joint operatives of the Marine Battalion Landing Team, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The report also quoted authorities as saying the six hailed from Hainan, China. An initial investigation showed the six were caught illegally fishing northwest of Ramos Island in Palawan. Seized from them were an 11-foot speedboat with a 60-hp engine; UHF radio and global positioning system (GPS) device, along with equipment to catch pawikan (sea turtle). — LBG, GMA News
