Senate reminds Mrs. Ligot: You're not off the hook yet

She may not have been arrested like her husband Thursday night, but Erlinda Ligot is not yet off the hook especially on matters concerning the Senate investigation into alleged irregularities in the Armed Forces of the Philippines. According to Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Teofisto Guingona III, senators can still compel Mrs. Ligot to attend hearings as the Senate's arrest order for the Ligot couple after citing them in contempt is still in effect. Radio dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo quoted Guingona as saying the Senate merely suspended implementing an arrest order on Mrs. Ligot because of her medical condition. He added the Senate can still send doctors to check on Mrs. Ligot's health. Guingona said they are considering resuming sometime next week the hearings on the couple's unexplained wealth, including properties in the United States. Mrs. Ligot was spared from arrest Thursday after the Senate decided not to order her arrest for humanitarian reasons. She and her husband, former military comptroller Lt. Gen. Jacinto Ligot, failed to show up at Thursday's hearing supposedly due to health reasons. Mrs. Ligot claimed to have severe palpitations and acute gastroenteritis while Mr. Ligot claimed to have flu-like symptoms. Before Thursday's no-show, the Ligots had angered senators for either claiming they do not recall answers to their questions, or for invoking their right against self-incrimination. — LBG, GMA News
