Metro Manila commuters to pay P1 more to ride a bus

Starting next Tuesday, commuters in Metro Manila will have to pay P1 more for bus fares. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board gave all buses plying Metro Manila routes the green light to a P1 provisional fare increase. This means a people who take the bus will have to pay a P10 minimum fare for non-air-conditioned buses for the first five kms, and P1.50 for every succeeding km. For air-conditioned buses, the minimum fare will be P12 and P2.20 for every succeeding km. The fare increase followed similar increases in prices of food, fuel and other basic commodities. Jeepneys fares were also increased to P8 from P7 earlier this year. The flagdown rate for taxis was also raised from P30 to P40. — VS, GMA News
