NDRRMC: 300 people stranded as floods hit 5 villages in Jolo

At least 300 people are stranded after a flash flood hit five villages in Jolo town in Sulu last weekend, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. In a report posted on its website Monday, the NDRRMC said the floods caused by heavy rains hit downtown Jolo at 3 p.m. Saturday. "Five barangays, namely Asturias, Tulay, Takut-takut, Chinese Pier and some parts of San Raymundo were inundated with floodwaters two to three feet deep. About 300 pedestrians were also stranded," the NDRRMC said. However, the NDRRMC said the water subsided at around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, with no casualties reported. The NDRRMC said the police, military, Coast Guard and local government conducted rescue operations. – VVP, GMA News
