NDRRMC: 1 killed, 6 hurt by lightning in Davao Norte


At least one student was killed while six people were injured after lightning struck at their campus in Tagum City in Davao del Norte last weekend, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday night. In a report posted on its website, the NDRRMC said the incident occurred at 4 p.m. March 25 at the Laureta National High School in Tagum City. Killed was Hazel Grace Deguilmo, 13, of Barangay San Miguel. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Davao Regional Hospital.   • Jenny Beltran, 15
  • Kate Jacklyn Meparanum, 13
  • Rico Lumando, 17
  • Roselyn Monte, 20
  • Herlyn Libres, 13; and
  • Ivy Marie Malacaste, 13.
They were rushed to the Davao Regional Hospital for treatment, the NDRRMC said. Sulu flashfloods Meanwhile, a four-year-old child was killed while 19 families were affected by flashfloods that swept Parang town in Sulu over the weekend. Citing a belated report from Parang town, the NDRRMC said the floods occurred at 6:20 p.m. on March 25 and affected Sinah, Alu Layag and Duyan Kabaw villages. It identified the fatality as Muggung Sarapuddin, 4, of Barangay Duyan Kabaw, "who was swept away by [a] strong current." [See: NDRRMC update] The NDRRMC said this was aside from a flashflood and tornado that hit Matatal village in Maimbung town in Sulu last March 24.
