DPWH sets timetable for repair of roads, bridges

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has drawn up a timetable for the repair of deficiencies in national roads and bridges. DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the deadlines will range from three days for minor defects like potholes, to 30 days for defects requiring major work. Singson also deputized maintenance point persons at the district levels to monitor the conditions of national roads and bridges. Dubbed “Road Patrol," the teams will take note of defects and ensure their quick repair, DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said in Department Order 13. In Department Order No. 13 dated March 14, Singson said these teams shall conduct daily inspections of their assigned road sections and bridges, according to a news release posted on its website. All reports about road or bridge deficiencies will be submitted to the maintenance engineers of the district offices. Singson said this system hopes to improve road maintenance and ensure the safety of roads and bridges. "To ensure that the system is carried out effectively, the district engineer concerned meets the maintenance engineer and the road patrol or point persons to monitor and evaluate compliance to response time to correct the noted defects or deficiencies," the DPWH said. Response times Singson’s directive includes required response times for each defect or deficiency:

  • Three days for potholes, alligator cracks, lush vegetation, clogged drains, and no or faded road markings;
  • Seven days for major scaling and low or inverted shoulder;
  • 30 days for pumping and depression, and
  • 10 days for shoving and corrugation. – VVP, GMA News
