Local crisis committee told: Ensure Agusan hostages’ safety

Malacañang on Saturday reminded local officials handling a hostage crisis in Agusan del Sur to ensure the safety of at least 16 hostages held by armed men. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the Palace remains hopeful the situation will be resolved soonest, with no loss of life. “I don’t think we need to say this anymore, but the safety of the hostages should be the priority. But then again, this is at the level of the local crisis management committee. I hope they can handle this without anything untoward happening to the victims," Valte said on government-run dzRB radio. Government radio earlier reported at least 16 people were being held hostage in Prosperidad in Agusan del Sur, with the armed hostage-takers demanding the release of some jailed people. The report also said the hostages included at least two minors. “The local crisis management committee is usually in charge. We will wait for an update and we hope this can be resolved peacefully especially since two minors are among the hostages," Valte said. — LBG, GMA News
