Troops clash with armed men in Basilan; 1 dead
One person was killed while three others, two of them government soldiers, were injured Sunday morning after troops clashed with a group of fully armed men in Sumisip town in Basilan province, a military report said. The report said the encounter occurred at around 6:20 a.m. at Barangay Etub-Etub when patrolling soldiers chanced upon more or less 30 armed men whose group affiliation has yet to be determined. Casualties in the government side were identified only as one Sgt. Rodriguez and one Cpl. Romero. The troops also recovered the body of the unidentified fatality on the enemy side. The injured suspect, meanwhile, was in critical condition and had been evacuated to a nearby hospital.
