8 killed in clash between MILF, Mangudadatu supporters


Eight people were killed while four others were hurt in a firefight between members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and political supporters of Governor Esmael Mangudadatu in Maguindanao on Sunday night, a local military official said. Colonel Prudencio Asto, spokesperson of the Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said the encounter occurred at Barangay Tenuk in Mangudadatu town at 8:20 p.m. Asto did not identify from which side the fatalities came from, although he confirmed that two of Mangudadatu’s supporters were still missing as of posting time. He the governor’s political supporters were led by Mayors Ibrahim, Freddie and Zajid Mangudadatu, while the MILF side was headed by Kumaken Gandalibo. Military troops are still monitoring the situation in the area at present, he said. On November 23, 2009, 57 people, including members of the Mangudadatu clan along with several media personnel, were killed in Ampatuan town while on their way to file the candidacy papers of Gov. Mangudadatu, who was then Buluan vice mayor. At least 198 people, including primary suspect Andal Ampatuan Jr., are currently being tried for multiple murder charges in relation to the massacre. - KBK, GMA News
