Police: Lack of witnesses hampering probe of Sumera killing

While they have managed to come up with computerized sketches of three suspects in the killing of a female radio anchor in Malabon City last week, the police admitted on Monday that the lack of witnesses is hampering their probe. The Northern Police District (NPD) said no one has so far come out to help provide leads on the killers of Marlina "Len" Sumera, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported Monday. An unidentified man shot Sumera in Malabon City on March 24 as she was preparing to go to dzME studios in Caloocan City to host a public service program. Sumera was buried last March 27. NPD head Chief Superintendent Edgardo Ladao said no one has so far come out to provide leads on the suspects' whereabouts. The police suspect land dispute to be the most likely motive behind her killing. Ladao said tracker teams have already been formed to go after the suspects. Earlier, police released sketches of at least three suspected killers of Sumera. The reward leading to the arrest of the suspects also went up to P450,000. The images of the three suspects were uploaded on dzME's home page. NPD Director Chief Superintendent Edgardo Ladao described the gunman as 20 to 21 years old, 5'2" to 5'3" tall, medium-built, brown-skinned, and wearing a white T-shirt, cargo pants, and toting a shoulder bag. The lookout was described as 20 to 21 years old, about 5'2" to 5'3" tall, medium-built, and wearing a yellow T-shirt and cargo pants, and toting a black backpack. A third suspect was described as 45 to 50 years old, 5’2" to 5’3" tall, medium-built and wearing a white jacket and faded denim pants. Ladao also said their initial investigation showed that a 9-mm pistol may have been used in killing Sumera because of the gunshot wound in the nape. – VVP, GMA News
