Third fatality in Cavite sea mishap retrieved

A third fatality in last weekend's sea mishap off Cavite province was retrieved Sunday, even as the Philippine Coast Guard begins this week its investigation into the incident. Coast Guard teams recovered Sunday afternoon the body of Armando Huab some two to three nautical miles off Sangley Point, radio dzBB reported early Monday. Huab was the third fatality in the incident where a tanker hit a fishing boat off Cavite before dawn last April 1. Earlier confirmed dead were Eric Aperto and Mark Navarro.

Huab's widow Bethsaida identified Huab through a mole near the eye and the jogging pants he was wearing. Bethsaida said she had asked her husband not to go out to fish because of his age but he insisted. The Coast Guard is to start its Special Board of Marine Inquiry this week on the incident. Initial investigation showed the motor tanker "Hagonoy" heading for Manila from Rosario, Cavite collided with the "Lady Aliah." At least 66 fishermen from the "Lady Aliah" were rescued. — RSJ, GMA News
