American rescued after yacht drifts off Eastern Samar

An American national was rescued over the weekend after his yacht drifted off the coast of Eastern Samar due winds brought by bad weather in the area, police said Monday. John McMahan, a 51-year-old resident of Indiana in the United States, was rescued by local fishermen last Saturday near Ogis Island in Oras town aboard his yacht, Eastern Samar police chief Senior Superintendent Emmanuel Cubillo said. McMahan was supposed to sail from Guam to Lucena in Quezon province when his yacht ran out of fuel and drifted towards Eastern Samar due to winds from the cyclone, according to Cubillo. The American national is now in Tacloban City in Leyte province while his sea vessel is undergoing repair, he added. — with Andreo Calonzo/RSJ, GMA News
