QC jail warden wants Ivler transferred to Camp Bagong Diwa

The newly installed warden of the Quezon City Jail has asked the court to transfer murder suspect Jason Ivler to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City to erase suspicions that he is being given special treatment at the QC jail facility. In a letter to QC Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Fernando Sagun Jr., Superintendent Joseph Torres-Vela said the transfer is in connection with the ongoing investigation by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) regarding the alleged special treatment. “In order not to hamper the ongoing investigation . . . more so his (Ivler) case is considered a non-bailable offense of which he is categorized as high-risk and high-profile inmate, (he is) required to be transferred to MMDJ (Metro Manila District Jail (MMDJ) which was built purposely to secure similar classification inmates," Vela said in his letter. Vela’s predecessor, Superintendent Hernan Grande, was relieved from his post after photos of Ivler supposedly partying inside the jail facility came out in the media. The controversial photos were attached to the motion to transfer filed by the prosecution before the sala of QCRTC Branch 219 Presiding Judge Bayani Vargas, who gave the defense panel 10 days to submit its comment. Ivler is facing murder charges for the killing of Renato Ebarle Jr., son of a Malacañang official, over a traffic altercation in November 2009. He was arrested January last year after engaging arresting government agents in a firefight at his mother’s house in Quezon City. In his letter, Vela cited Supreme Court Administrative Circular 68-2005 signed by then Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr. wherein executive judges are authorized to approve requests of the BJMP to transfer the detention of high-profile detainees. The MMDJ jail facility is under the direct supervision and control of the BJMP. Other high profile detainees in it are members of the Ampatuan clan and their supporters, who are all facing multiple murder charges for the Nov. 2009 Maguindanao massacre, and some members of the Abu Sayyaf bandit group. - KBK, GMA News
