Meralco to raise electricity rates this April
Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will raise its electricity rates this month with the increase in its generating fee by 20 centavos per kilowatt-hour, GMA News TV’s ‘Balitanghali’ newscast reported Tuesday. Meralco described the higher generation charge as long overdue, explaining that independent power producers could have passed on the additional cost to consumers in May last year. The country’s biggest power distributor added that the summer season usually sees a peak in energy consumption, with households posting a higher demand for electricity with children on vacation. Meralco has advised the public to ramp up energy conservation measures this summer.
