Twitter falters on 'new' features

Micro-blogging site Twitter on Wednesday briefly reverted to its old interface after experiencing as-yet undisclosed technical difficulties. In its status page, Twitter indicated having problems displaying features like home timelines. "Temporarily Disabling Trends ... Sticking with our retro theme, we're temporarily disabling trends," it said at around 7 a.m. on April 6 (Manila time). An hour earlier, Twitter also said that it was "temporarily disabling" its #NewTwitter feature, a rich interactive interface that the social network launched just late last year. Both problems were quickly resolved within a matter of hours. Also, Twitter had indicated "Elevated error rates" since April 1; and noted account settings were temporarily unavailable for some users last March 30. While Twitter's blog remained silent on the matter as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the crowd-powered service monitoring site DownRightNow indicated a widespread service disruption at around 8 a.m. (Manila time). DownRightNow also indicated intermittent service for the day. The feature-trimming was noted in an article on PC Magazine, which said that the glitches may be either a sign of trouble or indicative of major site-wide revisions. — TJD, GMA News
