LTFRB accepting special-permit requests for Holy Week exodus

Expecting a surge of province-bound Filipinos during the Holy Week, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has started receiving applications by public utility bus firms for special permits. The LTFRB has encouraged bus operators to apply early for these special permits, which allow them to go to areas outside their regular routes. LTFRB Board Member Manuel Iway said they expect many bus firms plying "popular" routes to be overloaded with the yearly exodus, according to a report by radio dzBB's Allan Gatus. Iway noted Filipinos in Metro Manila traditionally go to their home provinces or to popular vacation spots as the Holy Week draws near. He said it is better for bus companies to file their applications for the special permits early. Bus firms seeking such special permits should prepare at least P250 for the permit, and make ready their units for inspection. On the other hand, Iway also said the LTFRB will be very strict in inspecting the buses, to make sure they are roadworthy. — LBG, GMA News
