Bomb explosion blasts Lamitan lodge in Basilan


A bomb explosion rocked a lodging house in the island province of Basilan, a military spokesman said late Saturday. The incident took place at 6:55 p.m. Saturday at Spasky Lodging House in Barangay Matibay in Lamitan City, Western Mindanao Command spokesman Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang said.
View Larger Map The official said the lodging house, owned by a certain Jose Tejada, totally collapsed during the explosion. Authorities are considering an improvised explosive device as the cause of the blast. Cabangbang said the casualties and damages are yet to be identified. Initial investigation revealed that two suspicious male individuals checked in at the lodging house at around 6:30 p.m. All possible motives are being explored to unmask the people responsible in the bomb attack, Cabangbang said.—With Jesse Edep/JV, GMA News
