Consumer group to hold forum on PLDT stake in Digitel

Militant consumer group TXTPower on Sunday announced a public forum to be held Monday on the purchase of Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc. by its erstwhile rival Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT). On its website, TXTPower said concerned individuals and organizations will hold the forum a 1 p.m. at the Case Room of the National College of Public Administration and Governance at the University of the Philippines in Dilliman, Quezon City. Its organizers include Foundation for Media Alternatives, LIRNEasia, NCPAG, Philippine Cyber Party, Philippine ICT Researchers Group, Pro Pinoy Project and TXTPower. In late March, PLDT said it would buy a 51.5-percent stake worth P69.2-billion in the Gokongwei-owned Digitel, operator of Sun Cellular. Last week, TXTPower blasted another mobile operator – Globe Telecom Inc. – for its plan to impose caps on household Internet use in the wake of company claims of network congestion due to “abusive users." — PE/VS, GMA News
