Aquino removes aunt as head of police college


President Benigno Aquino III has removed his aunt-in-law, Margarita “Tingting" Cojuangco, as head of the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC), a Malacañang spokesperson said on Sunday. Interviewed on state-run dzRB radio, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Cojuangco, wife of Aquino’s uncle Jose “Peping" Cojuangco, has been replaced in an acting capacity by Ruben Platon, who was executive director of PPSC. Mr. Cojuangco is the brother of Aquino's mother, the late President Corazon Aquino. Mrs. Cojuangco was appointed to the position in 2004 by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Valte said it was not certain if Cojuangco quit her post or why Platon was named acting chair. Valte, in the same interview, also announced the appointment of former Kalinga Rep. Lawrence Wacnang and board director Marissa Bondoc to the John Hay Management Board (JHMB). Valte said the President also appointed former Benguet provincial board member James M. Guanso, Jr., Pangasinan First Lady Jaime Eloise M. Agbayani, lawyer Ceasar G. Oracion, and businessman Antonio H. Tengco to the Camp John Hay board. Also appointed was businessman Guillermo Luz as co-chairman of the National Competitive. Valte also announced the appointments of Cooperative Development Authority board members Felicitas Aacosido and Paisalin Tago, both of whom will serve a term until July 2012, and Nelson Aragon and Pendatun Disemban, whose term will be until July 2016; and National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) commissioners Conchita Calzado, Percy Brawner, and Datu Cosme Lambayon, all of whom would serve until February 2013. Also appointed were Commission on Filipinos Overseas Executive Director Mary Grace Tirona; National Anti Poverty Commission director Natividad Bernardino; Finance director Joanne Lim; National Agricultural and Fishery Council Acting Executive Director Cesar Drilon; and NCIP acting directors Basilio Wandag, Jonathan Adaci, Sancho Bugung, Ruben Bastero, Robert Almonte, Pinky Grace Pabelic, Woy Lim Wong, and Dominador Gomez. Others on the list were Lesley Jeanne Cordero as Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, and Carol Yoraba and Raul Pangalangan a smembers of the Committee on Dangal ng Bayan Award under the Civil Service Commisison. The President also designated Planning Secretary Cayetano Paderganga Jr. as chairman of the Built-Operate-and-Transfer Implementing Rules and Regulation Committee. — KBK, GMA News
