NCR firefighters on full alert during Holy Week

Firefighters in Metro Manila have been placed on 24/7 alert during the Holy Week because the hot weather will likely help fires spread more quickly. Bureau of Fire Protection Metro Manila head Chief Superintendent Santiago Laguna urged the people to be wary of fires stemming from loose electrical wires or gas leaks. He appealed to homeowners leaving for provinces to take safety precautions, including the disconnection of appliances from electrical outlets. He also urged the public to secure the valves of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks and not to leave behind lighted cigarettes or candles. Many Filipinos in the National Capital Region (NCR) are expected to flock to provinces during the Holy Week. Laguna deployed personnel to the ports and transport terminals to help inspect baggage to detect items that may cause fires aboard buses or boats, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported early Thursday. – VVP, GMA News
