Google salutes Charlie Chaplin with Video Doodle

Google on April 15 paid tribute to English comic actor Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin not just with a static Google Doodle but with a specially themed Video Doodle. It would have been the actor's 112th birthday. Visitors to Google's website (www.google.com) are greeted with a YouTube video replacing the usual static Google logo. The black-and-white video, which stars the members of the Google Doodle staff, is a short movie featuring gags borrowed from Chaplin's silent films. What made the video tribute unique was that "Google" cameoed in several scenes, including in a newspaper Chaplin was reading. "New 'Talkie' films just a fad, says local film expert," reads the banner on the "Google" newspaper. After the video ends, the user will be taken to a Google page showing —you guessed it— search results for "Charlie Chaplin." Chaplin was born April 16, 1889 and died December 25, 1977. He was best known for his work during the silent film era, using a combination of mime, slapstick and other visual comedy routines. — TJD, GMA News
